Bangkok & Chiang Mai city

So this story starts in Bangkok City.

After a blissful day in Singapore the contrast between the two cities is major. Smog filled the air and the heat was slightly overwhelming at first.

Once I had arrived at my hotel I met my new roommate and shortly after the rest of the group with whom i’ll be travelling with for the next two weeks.

All are lovely, most are British, one Irish, a Canadian girl and an Aussie.

We’re called the chicky’s and are all a right laugh!

Plus having people to talk to is quite nice as well instead of having conversations with yourself in your own head for the last couple of days haha.

On our first day we met our tour-guide Non and went out for a proper traditional Pad Thai meal. I can officially admit I am now a full on Pad Thai addict 😍🤤

We got drinks on a rooftop bar after walking down China Town.

The next day we went out on a riverboat tour and visited a couple of temples.

The river first of all felt more like the sea as it was mega choppy. Sometimes when the boat came down from a wave you’d feel your stomach drop as-if in a rollercoaster, it was quite fun and alarming at the same time.

The temples were extraordinary and so detailed. Non tried to explain the history of them but to be fair I kept getting confused due to all the names sounding the same. Which i later found out were the same but were for different kings and people…

The night train was in a way better than expected and at the same time dreadful. We survived though even with the shaking and feeling like the train was gonna fall off the tracks.

Arriving at Chiang Mai station we got a ride to our hotel, dropped our stuff off and headed straight to the bike tour.

Still in our disgusting sweaty clothes we set off cycling around Chiang Mai.

We saw a couple of new temples (150 years old but there we go..) and saw old ruins of temples from 1000 years old.

We got to eat fresh fruit at an organic farm (fucking delicious, fresh pineapple trumps the canned stuff at home) and went on.

Of course being the Dutchie in the group my bike had to keep breaking down and everyone else had no problems whatsoever… typical.

Once our bums were either all really sore or numb from the saddle we got back to our hotel and all I did was shower for an hour to feel slightly clean again and nap.

In the evening we went on a street food crawl where every stand had different kinds of food and the smells were absolutely divine.

We ate a Chiang Mai noodle soup which consisted of noodles and crunchy noodles. Weird but good.

After that we went to a local bar and had a good laugh with some beer before hitting the sack.

Anyhow’s, after dinner (made up of snacks like dunkin’ donuts and mostly crisps, cos why not 🤷‍♀️) we got the night train to Chiang Mai.

Next day we start our tour into the jungle where we go back to basic. Meaning: no internet, no electricity, staying in an aboriginal village and showering in freezing water.

Kinda hoping it’s just like the Tarzan movie but has a better ending…

For now toodle pip and talk soon!
